Nowhere to hide – The Scariest Reality Check Of My Life.

Young beautiful woman jumping with a scarf

The whole world was against me. There were insurmountable obstacles and I was drowning in my own self-limiting beliefs.

Where was that light at the end of the tunnel?

    Help!

God, Jesus, Buddha, Archangel Michael. All the saints and the prophets. Where are you in my time of need?

    No answer.

What’s a girl to do when there is nowhere to hide from these fear based and debilitating thoughts.

Well in my case I was fortunate enough to be called on my shit by my fricken awesome Mentors. They smashed through EVERY single one of my perceived ‘problems’. When all is said and done, all outcomes have been based on choices that I have made.

They made me realize how much I had been looking for others to save me. WTF, really?! I mean I am strong, independant and proud, so HOW could I be looking for others to save me? It just couldn’t be.

In that moment I clearly saw how I had given away my power to all these external factors, my Husband, Parents, Mentors, Siblings, Friends. Here I was giving away my power with excuses like, I am a Mum, I have to help everyone, I need to run a household, I have duties and obligations to be a great Sister/Mum/Daugher/Wife.

Once again, I thought I was going to learn High Level Marketing Strategies and Sales and walked away with a helluva lot more. They did tell me that everybody gets what they came for during this intensive 9 day program. I thought that meant making more sales, but it turns out that erasing the shit stuff made way for me to make actual sales – on a deeper level. A level that was coming from a loving space not a fear based place. Where I could lovingly call my clients on their bullshit too.

    What a revelation!

Why do you think it’s not the right time to expand or invest in yourself? What’s the ‘excuse’ you’re feeding yourself? One thing I am sure of is that you can and will create whatever you believe. I hear people sometimes say to me, it’s not in my nature to make a snap decision, I need time to think about it. Well do you realize that THAT is a decision in itself?

Everyday we make choices, they can empowering or discouraging. It’s up to you which way you go, there is no judgement. But for God’s sake, DO NOT complain. It doesn’t matter where you were up to this point, what matters is where you go from here. One of my favourite movies that illustrates this is Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow. You get to see two different versions of how her life progressed, based on whether she caught an earlier train. Now I am not saying that you need to start analyzing every detail like when to get on a train, because it goes so much deeper than this. It’s a metaphor for the choices we need to make EVERYDAY in life.

Are you going to choose to do it the easier way, through love, self-respect and discipline or go down the fearful path of just dabbling in a few things to see what works best, and if you fail (which you inevitable will) – well, there wasn’t too much damage caused, and you don’t really need to feel the pain of it.

    The Breakthrough Week
    The Breakthrough Week

    Bullshit!

If you don’t feel a bit scared, then you’re not really moving out of your comfort zone. If you’re happy to stay in mediocre world, then make sure you don’t allow yourself to feel scared. And do ONLY what feels comfortable and safe.

The flip side, is to feel that fear and push through because when you believe in what you’re doing, your passion will override anything.

The moral of the story is to find out what is REALLY stopping you and admitting it. When I got really honest with myself and my Husband, I felt like a weight had lifted. Sure, I felt vulnerable and scared. At the same time I felt excited, light and free. It’s an amazing feeling when you are not hiding behind these protective barriers and no longer feel the need for so many of these bullshit layers that just weigh you down for nothing.

Quite simply – stay strong, true and disciplined! Love yourself enough to expect more from life, the people you serve, friends and family.

  • What Does Authenticity REALLY Mean?

    What Does Authenticity REALLY Mean?

    authentic-woman

I have a confession to make.

One I was really reluctant to share.

For most of my life I was a fraud.

I wasn’t really who I wanted to be perceived as.

That realization alone has helped catapult me to greater inner joy and success than I could have ever imagined.

For way too long, I have treated my business as a separate entity.

Is it any wonder why there was such a disconnect. Struggling. Detached. Unfocused. Divided.

How did I manage to regroup you may be wondering. (More on that later)

Whether you’re selling a hard product or an info program, people are buying you. Yes that’s right YOU Sweet Pea 🙂 I struggled for many years with this (seemingly) complex conundrum, which I now realize is quite simple.

    Authenticity Sells.

The end of the Mayan Calendar heralds a new wave of intuitive awareness. A place where people are suddenly developing built in BS detectors.

When I stopped trying to hide behind my product, my life mission became quite clear. I stopped playing small. Spoke my truth. Stopped taking crap from people. Only took on projects that I felt strongly about.

What are you hiding behind gorgeous?

The ever present perfectionist (blame it on my Virgo’ness) saboteur kept telling me that everything I did was never good enough, completed, finished (insert your own words here) blah blah blah and just know sweetness that there are plenty more where they came from if you give your inner critique the power.

Being authentic means to stand your ground about who you are – stand in your true power without fear of rejection or ridicule. When I got clear on who I am – I mean the ‘real’ me that not many people in my business life get to see. The cheeky, fun, green juice guzzling, rap loving, popstar ‘wanna be’, wog chick who just loves to be of assistance.

Would the real Monique Alamedine please stand up?

Authenticity if not actioned to it’s fullest, is just another buzz word.

In order to be authentic, you need to get clear on who you are. Some of the questions to ask yourself are:

    • What do I stand for?

Whether it’s clean living, eco-sustainability or Women being allowed to breastfeed in public. Get clear on what you stand for.

    • What am I totally against?

I am totally against dictatorship. I started my business for the freedom to make the choices that suit me best. What do you totally abhor?

    • What are my values?

I usually do this yearly and when I am feeling stuck maybe twice a year. Just take some time to write a list of as many that you can think of, go back through the same list and circle the most relevant ones, keep repeating this process until you get it down to 20-30 words and keep referring to this with every decision you make.

    • What’s the Legacy you want to leave behind?

Think about what you would like your friends and family to say about you when you leave this planet. This allows you to ensure that you’re on the right track with every choice  you make.

It’s also really important to set your intention for each year as well as each day. I find when I set the intention about more than just my tasks on my to-do list, I have an amazing day.

Set your intention for how you want to feel and you’re laying the foundations for some magic to take place.

  • The Big Balance Myth

    The Big Balance Myth

Once upon a time a reporter wrote a story about a very organised woman who worked, managed her home and family, and was able to enjoy a fun weekend at the end of every week. The story made the cover of the big news dailies and was a featured story on the current affairs shows for some time.

Sadly he (of course it must have been a man) neglected to report on the different sources of support she was able to call on to help her through each week. He didn’t talk about the cleaner or the gardener, or about the nannies and personal drivers. He didn’t talk about the tiny worry lines across her forehead that grew each day as she worried about her children while she was struggling along at work.

And the reporter lived happily ever after while the organised woman struggled on.

And so, the Big Balance Myth was born.

When we talk about work-life balance we do it in hushed, respectful voices as though it was something huge and sacred. It’s almost too big to be achieved and sadly that’s because we have allowed ourselves to be persuaded that balance is about having both sides finished perfectly.

Balance isn’t about perfection. It’s about looking after yourself while doing what you can.

    There. I said it.

Looking after yourself while doing what you can.

    e-balance-01

There are too many women who tell me that I’ve got that back to front but seriously, think about it. If you don’t look after yourself how will you ever get everything done? If you don’t look after yourself how will you ever find a balance between work and play? You’ll be too tired to play!

If I was to report a story on the very organised woman I would tell people how worried she felt and how she felt like a failure despite all the help and support she had. I would expose the myth for what it is – pure fantasy.

    • You can have balance but it will never involve perfection because we live in the real world, not a fairy tale.
    • The house might have toys on the floor but it’s balanced by the smiles on your children’s faces.
    • The report might not be word perfect but it’s balanced by the fact that you met the deadline and didn’t have to work late.
    • You might not present your husband with a home cooked meal every night but that’s balanced by the time you are able to share with him instead of the oven.

If we strive for perfect imperfection we would be a lot closer to living a balanced life. And that’s no myth.

    How balanced is your lifestyle?

  • The Four Seasons Of Life

    The Four Seasons Of Life

So you fought your fears, cleaned up bad habits & said goodbye to the ‘old’ you.

Why then do you still feel that life isn’t as ‘perfect’ as you thought it would be?

As the old saying goes, “happiness is a journey not THE destination” so too is the ebb + flow of life.

This got me thinking about how I can emotionally relate to all four seasons, and how our emotional + spiritual growth, are more similar to seasonal changes than we think.

    Release + Renew

At times the layers of ‘stuff’ that have quietly been suffocating, suddenly become loud and make me realize it’s time to let go of those issues – much like the leaves falling off a tree. It’s quite liberating when those layers start to peel off, especially when I didn’t even realize how much excess baggage I was actually carrying.

Remember when The Biggest Loser contestants are made to carry their own weight? This was used as a reminder not only of how far they have come – but also where they never want to go again. Imagine having to hold that emotional pain again?

I know it may seem scary, but don’t fight the process – if you resist it persists!

No season lets you see such an incredible transformation as autumn does. Trees change colours every day and eventually lose their crown. This all is necessary to make room for new leaves, new life. Our life is the same – sometimes we simply must get rid of one thing to make room for a new, better one. Everybody experiences these changes and knows that with death of the old comes new life.

What have you been afraid of facing?

    Hibernate + Declutter

Here is where the real magic happens.

Once those layers are off, it’s quite disconcerting to not be able to hide behind the excuses that are shed in the ‘Autumn’ phase.

I have even felt disconnected, depressed and alone because I am desperately seeking warmth for my soul.

These times allow me to go within, and stop seeking outside comfort, because the only warmth that can be found is the internal heating of the ‘soul’ kind.

When we turn the energy of fear and anxiety into massive action, we are more likely to feel gratitude for the stillness. Just like Winter though, eventually the cold nights end and the sun comes out in the morning.

Allow yourself the space + time for breaking down to breakthrough.

    Are you ready to breakthrough?

    Emerge + Rejuvenate

You know those times where you feel that tingle of hope + excitement + a little spring in your step, which usually precedes a new beginning?

Like a butterfly emerging, it’s the hope that helps everyone live through the winter.

New seeds of desire + action plans are laid down. Flowers bloom + new life is born. This is the season of exciting and new things that bring energy and vitality.

Will you continue to water those seeds of faith that you have planted during those dreary times?

    Blossom + Shine

Think about those gloriously warm Summer days, remember how effortless, carefree + fun! These are the times in your life when you feel like all the hard work you have invested in being kind to yourself is paying off.

These are the times in your life when you feel like all the hard work you have invested in being kind to yourself is paying off. You’re optimistic, can easily find the humour in life and believe that you are destined for greatness. You feel invincible and that you have found your true calling, and you’re in a peaceful place. You get all the green lights, parking spots and discount bargains. Life is sparkling!

How can you maintain that flow?
